2026 Canada Maple Leaf 1/2 oz 9999 Gold Coin
First issued in 1979, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf has become one of the longest-running gold bullion coins in the world, second only to the South African Krugerrand in continuous production. Originally minted in a single weight, the Gold Maple Leaf series has since expanded to include six different weight options each year, with the 1 oz coin remaining a favorite among both investors and collectors.
The obverse of the 2026 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin displays the first official Canadian effigy of King Charles III. Designed by Canadian artist Steven Rosati, the left-profile portrait depicts the monarch without a crown and represents only the third time a Canadian artist has created a portrait of a British monarch for the nation’s coinage.
The reverse features Walter Ott’s original sugar maple leaf design, which debuted in 1979 and has since become the hallmark of the Maple Leaf series. This iconic motif appears across all denominations in the Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium Maple collections.
While sugar maples produce winged seeds, known as samaras, capable of traveling several hundred feet from the parent tree, their spread is gradual and often limited by temperature and moisture conditions, making them less adaptable to rapid environmental changes than more resilient maple species.
The 2026 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are offered individually in plastic flips or in sealed sheets of 10 coins. Although the Canadian Maple Leaf Series began in 1979, the 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf was first introduced in 1986 as the third fractional-ounce coin.
