2025 Chinese Panda 150 gram Silver Proof Coin
The Silver Panda coins were first introduced in 1983. The initial three years featured proof-quality coins with a limited mintage of just 10,000 pieces per year. There were no Silver Pandas minted in 1986, but production resumed annually thereafter. Each year, the design of the panda changes, making them highly sought after by collectors. The only exception to this was in 2002, when the design remained the same as in 2001.
The People's Republic of China is responsible for issuing and guaranteeing the quality of each Silver Panda coin. These coins are minted at several locations, including, but not limited to, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Shenyang. Unlike the U.S. Mint, Chinese mints do not use mint marks to identify their production facilities. Instead, subtle variations in the coin's design, such as font size, bamboo length, and temple details, are often used to distinguish between different mintings.
The Silver Panda has become a highly valued collectible, especially for its annual design changes. In 2016, the series transitioned to the metric system, with the 5 oz Silver Panda being replaced by a 150-gram Silver Panda, still made from .999 fine silver.
